[中式] Mini Bordeaux 86 Dinner

Dom Perignon Oenotheque Brut Millesime, Champagne 1996
Light to medium gold color.  Superb nose of honey infused tropical fruit, good mineral and still quite fresh and on the other hand nicely evolved.  Great acidity as many other 96’ top Champagne, along with the nice refined bubbles giving a substantial mid-palate that leads all the way down to a rich and balanced finish, a wine that is so enjoyable now and will continue to evolve easily for another 10+ years before reaching it’s apogee.

Domaine Ramonet Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 1990
Medium rich gold color.  This bottle unfortunately is showing some oxidation although still very enjoyable, rich honey and honey suckle in the nose with traces of soft mineral, matured white fruit that is coated with a layer of caramel sweetness.  The palate is full bodied, rich white fruit with a creamy texture, smooth and while with an easy acidity, full honey finish and lack of variations, drink up.  T/N by Master, thanks.

Chateau Calon-Segur, Saint-Estephe 1986
Medium garnet color.  Damp earth nose intermixed with some herbs and forest floor, quite musky and rustic that almost raise a doubt of TCA contamination.  Medium to full bodied, this wine is reaching the plateau of full maturity though there is still some austerity found in the finish being the characteristic of the vintage.  T/N by Master, thanks.

Chateau Lagrange, Saint-Julien 1986
Medium garnet color.  Well evolved nose of matured black and red fruit with some vanilla wood, soft and a touch of mocha note.  Completely evolved and no longer a blockbuster, quite balanced and easy, seamless finish.  This is the first great effort from this Chateau since the new ownership of Suntory but I personally prefer the 1990.  T/N by Master, thanks.

Chateau Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan 1986
Dark garnet color.  Typically earthy nose with tobacco and Havana cigar intermixed with a richly endowed black cherry and currant fruit.  Full bodied, good grip and punch, nice acidity and balance if not a little tannic, outperformed the Petrus by the superb structure.  This wine should continue to evolve at a slow pace.  T/N by Master, thanks.

Petrus, Pomerol 1986
Medium garnet color.  Sweet cherry nose that is quite forward, quite clean and pure, it is well evolved and shaken off the austerity and vegetal notes that were found in it’s youth.  Well evolved palate with well delineated sweet fruit, tannins are completely softened, a little lean but no austerity, smooth and a silky finish, a little simple and direct.  At the end of the day this is a nice effort being not a vintage to favour the right bank.  T/N by Master, thanks.
